11+ Scores
11+ Scores
Over the next few weeks (in areas where there are grammar schools) children will be receiving their 11+ results and hopefully your child will receive the good news that they have reached the required score. This of course does not guarantee them a place at your first choice Grammar School as individual schools often have more applicants than places so apply their oversubscription criteria to decide who gets places and who misses out.
Previous years allocations can provide a helpful indication as to whether a school is likely to offer your child a place - for example if in the past three years the last qualified child to be admitted lived between 1000 and 1500 metres away and you live say 700 metres away you can reasonably assume you will be allocated a place. Similarly if you live 3000 metres from the school it is unlikely that the distance criteria will stretch that far.
It may of course be that your child has not performed as expected in the 11+, falling short of the required to be considered of Grammar School standard. Without being proactive there is no possibility for them to be allocated a grammar school place in the Spring.
Whatever the outcome there are options but if you would still like your child to attend grammar school it is imperative that you include the school(s) you most want them to attend on your Common Application Form - if you do not there will be opportunity to appeal against the 11+ score and your child will never be considered for a place.
