Starting School

Firstly good luck to all those starting a new school this week; whether you're starting in Reception (and I guess not reading this!), transferring to high school or just starting at a new school it's an exciting time. Many pupils love their new school from day one; settling in well and making new friends.
For others it is more challenging but stick with it, certainly for at least a term. We get approached by parents within the first few weeks asking for help moving schools; you have to give things time to resolve. And they often do.
That said, sometimes your child has simply been placed in the wrong environment for them; not necessarily a poor or failing school, just the wrong one for them. If after a reasonable time you feel the school will not meet their needs or they won’t be happy there are options to change schools. Either to another local school that has spaces - really easy, we’ll help you with this for free!
Or alternatively through the Appeals Process whereby a Panel of three people, not connected to the school or local Council will decide whether your child should be admitted to your preferred school.
